My finished 'Around The World Quilt'

I never thought I would see the day when this quilt would be all assembled, sashed, backed, quilted and bound…………yet here it is!! Thank you so much to all the other girls in the Bee who made a block for this special quilt and made the journey so much fun………

25 beautiful Paris inspired blocks!!!

Quilt Around The World Bee II comes to a close after 2 years!!

I can't believe it has been 2 years since we started the second 'Around The World Quilt Bee' It has been an interesting, informative and at times frustrating experience. During that time we have had parcels go missing, people go missing and all sorts of personal issues delay things moving along, however, almost all 25 quilts are home and only a couple waiting on the last block to be finished. It has been really fun and I have learnt so many new quilting skills and techniques………..and I have one very gorgeous quilt as a result. Here are the last few………….

Christine's blocks had a little holiday in New York for 5 months, so the loop had to be started again, therefore I can only show 10 of these lovelies! Luckily the other 12 did arrive home to join the others!  Christine asked for geometric blocks and my addition is below.

This next block is for Joan who requested blue and green stars. When these blocks arrived it was difficult to find a pattern that had not already been done!!! I can't wait to see the finished quilt...

Last but certainly not least is Elizabeth's 1/2 square triangle block. I had been sending all my parcels to her for the whole Bee, so I felt a little pressure to come up with something very special for her. I couldn't resist fussy cutting this bird for the centre!

Quilt Around the World Bee II

I haven't updated on my Around the World Quilt Bee for a while.

2 of the 25 girls have had all their 25 blocks return home, some are nearly there and a couple of us have our blocks stalled in New York!! Obviously they are having a great time, but think it is time they headed home to mamma!!!

 I have recently added blocks for 4 of the girls in the group. 

Here is the one I made for Mary. I was a bit worried about the colours in this one as I made it before I saw the rest of the blocks and thought my pinks might not work.

However, once I placed all the blocks together I think it works in quite well.

Next was Anita's block. Anita is making a 'neighbourhood' quilt and asked us to make something representing where we live. As there are only 3 of us living in Australia, I decided to include a kangaroo, which is a bit of artistic licence - we don't really have a pet one. (We actually have a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel!!!!) Anyway, the house and the fountain are really there.

Marian's quilt is focusing on yellow, aqua, white and grey. The blocks can be any design. I saw this block on Flickr and thought it would be fun to add one to this group in blue and yellow.

Marian's 20 blocks look very pretty with all the different designs.

This block is for Monica, who asked for stars or pinwheels in bright colours. I just had to use this chevron fabric and added the white star in the centre.

Around the world update

Things have started to slow down with this Around The World Quilt Bee II.

It is very frustrating as some blocks have stalled completely while others are whizzing around the world and not far from returning home....

This lovely quilt is for Lynne, who asked that her blocks all stay within the same colour family. Her starter block had the frog face in the centre, so I decided to play on that with the toes in the bottom sections!!

Diane's quilt is chasing the stars, so I decided to try the Lone Star paper pieced block. It was fun to make and I love all her blocks together. It will be an awesome quilt!!

Around the World Bee II update....

I have been very lazy with my blog posts, especially of my Around the World Quilt Bee. We are making slow but steady progress, and have made only 6 blocks since I last posted back in October!! So, here are a few, all done before Christmas.....

Beth, in UK, asked for blocks with wildflowers. I chose our state flower, the 'Common Heath' to add to her collection. By the time her quilt arrives home she will have a gorgeous set of beautiful blocks to make into a very special quilt..

Phuong, from NY, wanted blocks that remind her of summer (her starter block is top left), so I used the same colours and lots of half square triangles.

The next two went missing for 2 months somewhere between Horsham and Melbourne!!! Just when we had given up hope of them ever arriving, they mysteriously turned up.......!!!

Courtney, from New Jersey, wanted a 'Youtastic' quilt block, that says something about you. As I worked in hospitality for over 10 years and enjoyed teaching Beverage Service, I thought a few cocktails was appropriate!! She had also requested a 'siggy' block, so another recipe was included!!

Leona, from Florida, requested a Christmas theme, with bright modern fabrics. I made a wonky star to add, and hope they make it home in time for her to complete the quilt before next Christmas!!!

Betty, in Ohio, is after a green and pink theme for her quilt. I have added the last of my favourite pink and yellow stripe fabric so I hope she doesn't mind a touch of yellow, but I think it works in quite well.

Heather, also in Ohio, is making a mosaic quilt. The blocks can be any size as they will be floating on a white background when finished.

This will be a fabulously bright quilt!!
